DIY Fall Home Décor & Thrift Flips

After decorating for fall a few weeks ago, I knew that I still needed juusssssttt a few final touches. So I got creative and decided to repurpose a few things I already had on hand and DIY my very own fall decor to finish off my home this season.

Here’s a look at what I created in the hopes that it inspires you to repurpose some old décor YOU might have and give it new life!

#1. Upcycled Metal Pumpkin

When I first pulled out all my decor to decorate for fall, it became apparent VERY quickly that one of these things was not like the others.

My shiny metal pumpkin that I’ve had for yeaaarrrrss just no longer fit the vibe of my home and it stuck out like a sore thumb. But I was determined to upcycle it and find a way to make it work so I could keep using it.

I broke out some alcohol inks that I’ve had in my tool kit for quite a while and decided that this might be a great project to test them out on!

I gave the metal pumpkin a quick light coat of gold spray paint and then layered lots of different colors and coats of alcohol ink, continuing to build the color, depth and texture until I wound up with this GORGEOUS rusty gourd!

I’m thrilled with how it turned out and so happy that I can now continue to get great use out of this piece of decor for years to come.

#2. Thrift Flip Wreath

When I went thrifting for fall decor, I lucked up and found this awesome straw wreath for only $3! And ever since I found it, I’ve been so excited to add a little DIY flair and really create a stunning fall wreath with it.

I set aside some burgandy eucalyptus and corn husks and grabbed some hot glue and started working my way around this wreath, weaving in the eucalyptus first, adding in some doubled corn husks for volume and finishing it off with the lighter and thicker eucalyptus pieces for the final touch before hanging it up!

I love the simplicity of this wreath, and I’m amazed that I was able to create it with a $3 thrifted wreath and about $10 of materials. ( similar wreaths can easily go from $50 - $100 new!)

If you want to try your hand DIYing your own fall wreath, here is everything you’ll need all rounded up in one place so you can get started!

#3. DIY Artwork

The last project I really wanted to tackle for fall was making some custom fall artwork for my kitchen. I thrifted a frame with a cute strawberry print in it earlier this summer and thought it was super cute for the summer season, but now that it is fall, I was craving something a liilllll moodier in there. So I decided to make it myself!

I drew inspiration from a thrifted, pressed flower arrangement I already had used to decorate for fall and decided to paint a moodier and more colorful version for this frame!

Even though I usually stick to neutrals, I love that this piece wound up with a little bit of color and I think it adds the perfect final touch to our kitchen.

As always, I hope these projects inspired you to take a creative look at decor you might already own and to maybe see if you can upcycle, repurpose or give them a brand new life this season!

And if you do, please share them with me! I would love to see!
