When it comes to my home, you may be aware that I’m a big thrifter and DIYer. Like you can literally look around and point and there is a very good chance that if I didn’t thrift it… I made it myself. But when I decided to tackle my dining room makeover, I kinda just knew from the very start that I needed to find cabinets I could buy instead of trying to build custom built-ins.

I also knew that I was going to need at least two if not three of them to fit the wall in this room, so my chances of thrifting matching cabinets was little to none. 

That really only left me with the option of shopping new. But just because I wasn’t thrifting these didn’t mean I wasn’t still on a budget! And I honestly hunted for months for the perfect one. Until one day ( spoiler alert!) … I found THE PERFECT cabinets for my dining room makeover for under $500 a piece! And they turned out to be even better than I imagined! 

What I Love About Them

The Quality 

Shocked was an understatement for how I felt as I was unboxing these cabinets. While I loved the look of them in the photos online, I knew they were still flat pack furniture. And I was fully prepared for that level of quality. 

So imagine my surprise when as I unboxed them, the pieces were heavy duty!! And the finish was a perfect factory finish, not a cheap laminate look. Obviously they aren’t solid wood but they are definitely not your standard flat pack cheap laminate and particle board pieces either. 

And also I loved that on top of being really simple to assemble, they were designed to be assembled together with metal dowels and metal locking mechanisms. Not just screws that can strip and loosen over time.

REAL Glass Doors

While I was really hoping that the door front’s didn’t look like cheap plastic, I was SHOCKED to unbox them and find REAL glass in those doors! 

Again, I was fully expecting your typical flat pack quality and was not prepared for the quality of these cabinets. But having real glass in the door fronts elevates the entire piece and makes these cabinets look and feel so expensive! 

This honestly may be my favorite thing about these cabinets. 

The Size/Scale/Fit

You know how some flat pack furniture can feel almost like a small scale? Or like dorm furniture? Well these cabinets feel like true, full sized , real pieces of furniture! 

Also maybe even more importantly to me for this particular makeover was the fact that while these cabinets had beautiful trim details ( more on that in a minute!) , these pieces were still designed in a way to fit flush next to each other or next to a wall without gaps. This really gives you the ability to create a custom built in look. 

The Details 

Even though I was beyond thrilled when I discovered the quality of these cabinets, I think what really blew me away were all of the little details. 

• Fluted trim pieces 
• Heavy duty metal hardware and drawer pulls
• Beaded moulding on the drawer fronts and glass panes on the doors
• Adjustable shelving 
• Smooth gliding drawers 

* One thing that I discovered that I didn’t love was that the drawers were really narrow. I expected them to be much deeper. However… after using them and loading these cabinets down I have found that they hold much much more than I expected them to at first glance and I am still really really happy with them!

I can honestly say that even after nearly a year of living with them and using them daily ( and believe me… I loaded these suckers UP!)  that they are holding up amazing and I would buy these cabinets over and over again today!  

And not just for this space,  but I’m also planning other makeovers in my home where we could use them! 

These cabinets singlehandedly transformed my dining room and added major functionality and storage to our home that we just did not have before and for that I seriously cannot recommend them enough.
